Our Classes

For Adults

We would love you to come along and try our classes. All women are welcome and we aim to keep them affordable. We have wonderful facilitators who are welcoming, encouraging and provide a supportive learning environment. If you have any ideas on classes you would like to see us run or have a skill you would like to teach others please feel free to get in touch with us. 

Adult Ballet Class

Ballet Gold
(for more mature learners)

Mondays for 8 weeks from 5th August 

10.30am to 11.30am.  $50.00 (sorry no casual rate for this class)

A low impact ballet class, specially designed for older learners, but all ages and stages are welcome.  Ballet offers amazing benefits for joint mobility, posture, balance and coordination, as well as developing musicality, self-expression and self-confidence.  Join the class and enjoy one of the top fitness trends of today; ballet classes for adults. Beginners are welcome, it is never too late to start ballet.  Classes are facilitated by Jacqui Beets and held at Anita’s Dance Academy.

Bellydancing

Mondays for 6 weeks from 5th August 

7.35 to 8.35pm.  $50.00 (sorry no casual rate available for this class)

This class is a fun low impact dance exercise suitable for all fitness levels, shapes and sizes. This is a wonderful way to improve your balance and maintain joint function. These classes are held at Anitas Dance Academy in King Street and facilitated by Charmaine Seccombe.

Calm Yourself - Managing Anxiety 

Wednesday 21st August 12 noon to 2.30pm $10.00

Introduction to some of the simple and wonderful techniques available to change your response to anxiety.  Understanding how the brain is "causing" anxiety and how by committing to some simple practices will help overcome and change it with some simple techniques.  Bring a curious mind to this hands-on workshop to learn tried and true methods to change the way your mind is working and start to take control of your mood.  The facilitator includes in her portfolio, The Havening and Neuro Linguistic Programming and has experience in these, and many more modalities that work with brain training and mind management.  Her background includes using these tools in her response to a mild brain injury and brings passion and personal experience to the sharing of these techniques.  Facilitated by Caroline Welkins and held at the Upper Hutt Women's Centre.

Fusion Workout

Thursdays for 6 weeks from 1st August  

10.30 to 11.30am $45 or $8 casuals.

An efficient workout for all ages and fitness levels that combines all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. This class incorporates light hand weights, total barre technique, and fun joyful dance movements that make exercise enjoyable! Fusion classes are great for physical well-being, mental health, and they are a great place to meet new people with a passion and joy for life. Facilitated by Anita Perin-Zgomba and held at Anita’s Dance Academy. The cost is $45 or if you would prefer to come casually, $8 per class.

Line Dancing

Wednesdays for 8 weeks from 31st July 

10.30am to 11.30am $50 for or $8 casuals.

This is a fun class based on ballroom and Latin dance with a line dancing twist. It’s a great way to meet people whilst enjoying the benefits of a healthy physical activity. Classes are for eight weeks from 8th May. Facilitated by Anita Perin-Zgomba and held at Anita’s Dance Academy.

Love to Sing

Wednesdays from 24th July

10.00am to 11.00am $5 per class

Singing is an incredible way to reduce stress, improve your mood and bring some fun into your day. It can benefit you physically, emotionally, socially and psychologically. This class is for absolutely everyone - from those of you who feel you can't sing or lack confidence to sing, through to women who are confident singers.  This class is held at The Spot on Fergusson Drive and run by Joanne Roelofs.

Macrame

Macrame

Fridays for 2 weeks, 9th & 16th August from 9.30am to 11.30am

$40 for the 2 weeks which includes all materials. 

Staff at the Women's Centre are loving this macrame revival and excited to be offering a workshop suitable for beginners and those with experience.  Learn the knots to make a pot plant hanger and then make a beautiful wall hanging.  Guaranteed to be enjoyable and very addictive.  All materials are included in the cost of just $40.00.   Held at the Upper Hutt Women’s Centre

Mosaic Shapes

Mosaic Workshop

Wednesday 14th August 9.30am to 1.30pm (4 hours)

$40.00 which includes materials  

Introduction to mosaics, bring along any broken china you may have and transform them into a decorative outdoor paver. We also have some broken tiles that you are welcome to use.  Cost is $40.00 for the 4 hour workshop.  Held at the Upper Hutt Women’s Centre

Pilates

 Wednesdays for 8 weeks from 31st July 7.30 to 8.30pm

$50 or $8 casuals

Fridays for 6 weeks from 2nd August 10.00am to 10.45am

$45 (sorry there is no casual rate available for this class)

Pilates is a fantastic way to move the body in different directions to help you perform at your best whether it be in the gym, on the sports field, or to help you do your everyday tasks with ease. In these classes we will work through a whole body flow to leave you feeling centred, aligned and strong. Some options will be given to modify positions and you are welcome to select what is right for you.  Classes are facilitated by Chelsea Mortiboy (Wednesday) and Penny Ebbrell (Friday) and held at Anita's dance Academy.

Raranga Harakeke

Friday 23rd August 9.30am to 1.30pm

$40.00 which includes all materials and light lunch

We are offering a 4 hour workshop this term where you will begin preparing the flax ready to weave, then make some puti puti (flowers) and continue on to make a kono (4-sided basket).  The price is $40 per person which includes all materials.  Facilitated by Mihi Topou and held at the Upper Hutt Women's Centre.

Sewing

Mondays for 6 weeks from 29th July 11.30am to 1.30pm 

Both beginners and people wishing to build on their existing skills are welcome to these classes. If you are a beginner the classes will involve learning how to sew.  Practice sewing in lines and experimenting with the different stitches, then cutting out fabric to complete a basic cushion cover with a zip fastening.  Then you are welcome to bring along a project of your own choice. We have machines available to use or you are welcome to bring along your own. These classes are held at the Upper Hutt Women's Centre and facilitated by Joy Passey

Total Barre Classes

Tuesdays  for 9 weeks from 30th July from 6.30 to 7.30pm

 Thursdays  for 9 weeks from 1st August from 10.30am to 11.30am.

$55 for 9 weeks or $8 for casuals

These classes are ballet inspired with a focus on strength, flexibility, stamina and core stability. They are a great way to sculpt and tone your muscles. Everyone is welcome and no prior dance experience is necessary. These classes are held at Anitas Dance Academy and are facilitated by Phoebe Asprey.

Yoga for Greater Mobility

Mondays for 10 weeks from 22nd July 10.00 to 11.00am

$50 for 10 weeks or $8 for casuals

This is a gentle seated class focusing on breath and movement, ending with a relaxing meditation.  Facilitated by Janine Sarney and held at the Upper Hutt Womens Centre. The venue  is wheelchair friendly

Yoga for Better Health and Energy

Mondays for 8 weeks from 5th August 6.30 to 7.30pm $50 or $8 for casuals

 Fridays for 6 weeks from 2nd August 6.30 to 7.30pm

$45 or $8 for casuals

A great way to improve your health and energy which focuses on flexibility, balance, strength, breathing, relaxation, and meditation. Classes are for six weeks from the week beginning  the  6th May and 17th May. Facilitated by Jannine Sarney and held at Anita’s Dance Academy.

Zumba Step Classes

Tuesdays  for 8 weeks from 6th August 7.30 to 8.30pm

$50 for eight weeks or $8 for casuals

If you would like an uplifting cardio workout which burns fat, builds muscle and improves fitness - come along and try this step class. You will be stepping up, over and around an adjustable step. This is a fantastic way to improve your fitness, balance, agility and coordination. Facilitated by Candice Terblance Maritz and held at Anita’s Dance Academy.
